It is mostly used as a raw material in the production of bituminous mixtures and other products as bituminous emulsions and fluxed bituminous binders. Bituminous emulsions are produced by mixing bitumen with other compounds and they are mostly used as adhesive between the layers of bituminous mixtures and as insulating. Bituminous binders are also produced by mixing bitumen with other compounds and they are intermediate product of cold mix asphalt. Bitumen/bituminous emulsions/bituminous binders placed in the European market are regulated by the Construction Products Regulation 305/2011 (CPR).
