With EUROCERT’s seal of approval, Athens International Airport’s (AIA) environmental performance is validated

EUROCERT, a Greek certification and inspection body with 26 years of experience in conducting audits across more than 40 countries worldwide, has successfully completed the audit of Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” S.A. (AIA) for waste reduction practices according to the Zero Waste to Landfill Standard "ZWTL-EU1."

As part of its comprehensive environmental policy measures, Athens International Airport was certified for the entirety of its airport facilities in accordance with the Zero Waste to Landfill Standard “ZWTL-EU1.” Through the certification process by EUROCERT, it was verified that 88.15% of waste produced by the Airport Community in the reference year 2023 was directed towards further utilization—such as reuse, recycling, composting, and energy recovery—rather than landfill, thereby achieving the GREEN grade of the Zero Waste to Landfill Standard.

The successful completion of the inspection is accompanied by the issuance of a Verification Report and a Declaration of Compliance in accordance with the Zero Waste to Landfill Standard “ZWTL-EU1” requirements.

It should be noted that EUROCERT has successfully certified AIA according to the Environmental Management Standards ISO 14001, Energy Management ISO 50001, and serves as the current verification body under the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Scheme.
