ISCC Sustainability Certification

Certification according to ISCC EU covers the entire supply chain of biofuels. In particular, the following elements may get certified:

Farms
Warehouses
Collecting points
First Gathering Points
Conversion units and biodiesel plants
Traders

Certification according to ISCC EU means certification of biofuel or bioenergy based on specific sustainability requirements. Certification conforms to the requirements of Renewable Energy Directive (RED II), EU 2018/2001.
These biofuels may be of:

Agricultural origin
Animal origin
Biological origin, waste and residues, e.g. used cooking oil, animal fats, fish oil etc.

The basic parameters for certification are:

Sustainability requirements for primary production
Traceability and mass balance
Calculation of Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The most important benefits of ISCC EU certification are the following:

Compliance with the requirements of Renewable Energy Directive (RED II), EU 2018/2001 & 2009/30/ΕΚ (FQD)
Improvement of company’s logistics and stock organization
Possible sale of certified biofuel in higher prices
Company’s certificate is uploaded on ISCC’s world database

BENEFITS OF IMPLEMENTATION AND CERTIFICATION

Audit procedures and basic certification parameters (as stated above) remain the same as ISCC EU. However, ISCC Plus is an optional certification scheme.

The basic steps for certification are the following:

Apply for ISCC certification to EUROCERT
Sign the ISCC certification contract with EUROCERT
Registration of company name in the ISCC register
Documentation review by EUROCERT
Conduct of audit by EUROCERT
Issue of certificate (annual duration) & uploading of company name on ISCC’s world database
Use of logo and certificate in sustainable material delivery notes

EUROCERT is the first Greek certification body having gained approval by ISCC for biofuel certification according to ISCC EU implementing 2009/28/EC requirements. Furthermore,

EUROCERT has a great experience in verification of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, being accredited by ESYD since 2005 for verification of EU-ETS GHG emission reports.

Certification by Eurocert means evaluation and acceptance by an accredited and well-respected third-party professional organization.
